Japan's Ono voted Asian 2002 Player of Year

TOKYO, Japan - Japan and Feyenoord midfielder Shinji Ono smiles May 28 when told of the Asian Football Confederation's (AFC) decision to name him the winner of the Asian Player of the Year award for 2002. The 23-year-old playmaker, who played a pivotal role in helping his Dutch club win the 2002 UEFA Cup, becomes only the third Japanese to win the title since the awards were inaugurated in 1994.
